Traveling student

Students are what make this a great job. Last week, Dale Archer, UCO 1999, returned for a visit from Washington D.C. where he is a project manager for the National Democracy Institute http://www.ndi.org/
I know about this because I'm part of the American Democracy Project on campus, which hosted his return.

Dale was a standout here in class and student politics, and now he's in charge of the Institute's efforts in East Africa and the Horn of Africa, trying to help establish democracy in Somalia of all places. He's previously served in Bosnia. At any rate, he talked to students, met with President Betz, and then requested lunch with Jill Kelsey and I, favorite professors. We had a great time talking about old times and future times.

Wish I'd been taking notes during some of his presentations...lots of fascinating information about Americans working behind the scenes around the world. Ah well.
